Vanity Makeover

I've been drooling for months over all these beautiful repurposed vanities made out of vintage furniture. I was trying to find the best fit for my tiny half bath. Then I ran across an adorable Sewing cabinet on Pinterest. I thought a sewing cabinet would be small enough for my tiny space.  I shared an inspiration picture on my Facebook page and a sweet lady shared that she had one for sale! Thank you Mariah!!

I had it for over a year and I actually almost sold it ,as I had given up on finding the time to repurpose it, (Gasp) So glad my husband talked me into keeping it.   I decided since my new wall color was Benjamin Moore -Gray Owl, that I want to use a dark gray. Also being a high traffic area I knew Amy Howard One Step paint would be perfect. So I chose "A Good Man Is Hard To Find". One of my favorite colors!

Here is one last inspiration Picture I found on Min Lilla Veranda Blog Via Pinterest. If you like the authenic chippy look, you may even want to consider Milk Paint over Chalk Paint for your furniture. We have both at the shop and will be glad to explain the difference. We can also help you choose the perfect color for your project.

West Bottoms~KC, MO

Some of you that have followed me for awhile know that I started out in the West Bottoms. I still have a lot of talented friends there and love going to see all their fabulous finds. I rarely seem to make it out of Lee's Summit these days, but when I do I usually venture to the West Bottoms.

If you haven't been you are definitely in for a treat.  I still remember the first time a friend took me to the West Bottoms. I had no idea of what to expect. It was a bitter cold day in January and we weren't going to let that stop us. We grabbed some coffee and off we went. This was several years ago and there were only a handful of vintage shops on that day,  but the ones that were there, sucked me right in. If you love repurposed furniture & finds, chippy old goodness, rusty crusty metal, elegant antiques made of solid wood, mid century, industrial or farmhouse, well you are in luck.

I even stood behind Suze Orman in line one time in the West Bottoms. ( I only knew her from watching Oprah)😉

Each month the "venders" of each store work their booties off looking for those perfect items to create a specific look for their rented space within a store. This means hours and hours of them searching, driving, hauling, cleaning, repairing, painting, pricing, and then hauling again, and placing it in their space. It really takes some patience, energy, and hard work to be good as this. So one must really love what they do when you put so much energy & love into a piece of furniture.

So the fun part for you is you get to drive to basically one location, park and walk to several amazing  Vintage style stores. On first Friday weekend the old warehouses will be transformed into show rooms of sort.  There are usually food trucks, and a few of the shops even have cafes now. There are also some great little places to grab a bite to eat close by. Woodsweather Café,  Genessee Royale Bistro, The Lunch Box,Golden Ox,  The Westside Local. There are several more not too far but I have not checked them out yet.

The ReDeux Boys always have fun stuff and great furniture finds on the 2nd floor of Re:.

So if you haven't checked out the West Bottoms, then you should. I have a map at Very Violet and feel free to grab one next time your in.

Here's a few snap shots I took with my phone during April's first Friday weekend. I took my oldest daughter and she had a blast.

She found the perfect Leather purse at Restoration Emporium for only $12.   She said it reminded her of her horse saddle she had as a child. She eagerly switched purses and wore it the rest of the day. Thank you Restoration Emporium!

Antlers everywhere. We may have ended up bringing a few home.

This antique Glidden paint sign on the first floor at Re: was as big as a barn and drool worthy for sure. My friend The Shabbiest Chick always finds the coolest items!

Drawers for days right here. This beauty was at Bella Patina. We did stare at it for awhile and decided we had no where to put it.

More repurposed furniture at Bella Patina. We loved the large glass bottle.

We loved this display over at Top Hat Mercantile. There were too many people in the whole picture ,so I'm not able to show you the whole "lemon" display but it was pretty darn amazing. Real Lemons and all.

This was the first opportunity I had to visit Leanna's sweet new store Serendipity. It was just as sweet as she is and I can't wait to go back. Look at those gorgeous doors!

Another picture from Bella Patina and I could have stayed in this amazing space for awhile.

What's not to love about rusty/crusty white lockers!

I wanted to continue shopping but after catching up with old friends it was time to get back to my store and finish out the day. There were several places on the list to visit for our girls day out, but not enough time. It's best to go when you can spend the whole day, if you want to take it all in. The great thing is most all the venders restock their spaces all weekend long. So if you can't make it Friday morning, there will still be a chance to score some great items all weekend long. There are several West Bottom stores that are open other days other than first Friday weekend too. Also if you want to check the area out before the hectic first Fridays weekend, you could always go other days they are open as well.

Thank you all for continuing to support small businesses and shop local. I know they all appreciate your support as much as we do right here in Lee's Summit, MO.

XOXO~ Melissa

Magnolia Market Trip

Magnolia Market Trip

We got there shortly after they opened on a Friday morning. Parked by the tracks. I was surprised to see it was right in the middle of the downtown area. For some reason I had imagined it to be in a huge wide open space, but that was not the case at all. I Love surprises like that.
